Do you service wall-mounted, flued or central gas heaters?

Accepted Answer

No — we specialise in portable gas heaters only (LPG and natural gas portable convection and radiant heaters such as Rinnai Avenger, Rinnai Granada, Everdure, Paloma, Cannon and Real Flame). We don't service wall-mounted, flued, ducted or central gas heating systems.

Does a portable gas heater smell like gas?

Accepted Answer

A correctly working portable gas heater should NOT smell like gas. A faint, brief smell on the very first start of the season as dust burns off is normal, but a continuous gas smell means an unburnt gas leak — usually the LPG bottle connection, hose, regulator or the heater's gas valve. Turn the heater off, ventilate the room, do not use any electrical switches, and call us — if it's a life-threatening emergency, call 000.

How often should I service my portable gas heater?

Accepted Answer

Rinnai and other manufacturers recommend a service every 6–12 months — at least once a year, and every 6 months for heavy winter use. If your portable heater hasn't been serviced in the last 12 months, book one before winter.

How much does a portable gas heater service cost in Sydney?

Our standard portable gas heater service starts from $129 and includes a full clean, combustion test, gas leak test on the bottle/hose/regulator and a carbon monoxide check. Repairs and parts (if required) are quoted on the spot.

What does a portable gas heater service include?

Burner and pilot clean, radiant inspection, regulator and hose check, manometer gas leak test, combustion analyser CO test, igniter and thermocouple check, and a written safety certificate.

My portable gas heater won't turn on — what's wrong?

Accepted Answer

Common causes are an empty or faulty LPG bottle, worn regulator, failed thermocouple, dirty pilot, faulty piezo igniter or blocked burner. Most are simple repairs once diagnosed. Book a diagnostic call and we'll quote on the spot.

My portable gas heater has a weak or yellow flame — is it dangerous?

Accepted Answer

Yes. A weak yellow or orange flame on a portable gas heater means incomplete combustion, which produces carbon monoxide. Stop using the heater and book a service immediately.

Can carbon monoxide from a portable gas heater really kill you?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Portable gas heaters burn fuel inside the same room you're sitting in, so a faulty unit can build up dangerous CO levels quickly — especially in a closed room. Carbon monoxide is colourless, odourless and tasteless. Regular servicing and proper ventilation dramatically reduce the risk.
